GCC Orders Unified Military Command to Boost Regional Security

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in an extraordinary session held in Doha, directed its Joint Defence Council to hold an urgent meeting, preceded by the Supreme Military Committee, to assess the region’s defence situation following Israeli aggression against Qatar.

The GCC Supreme Council tasked the Unified Military Command with activating joint defence mechanisms and enhancing Gulf deterrence capabilities. The Council reaffirmed that the security of member states is indivisible and any attack on one is considered an attack on all, in line with the GCC Charter and Joint Defence Agreement.

In its communiqué, the Council condemned Israel’s actions as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter. It warned that such escalation threatens Gulf security, regional stability, and peace efforts. The Council also highlighted that the aggression obstructs Qatar’s mediation in Gaza aimed at securing a ceasefire, prisoner releases, and humanitarian relief.

The Council urged the UN Security Council and the international community to take firm measures, including sanctions, to stop Israeli violations. It called on global organisations to condemn attacks on civilians, journalists, medical teams, and aid workers in Gaza, describing them as crimes demanding urgent international action.
