Apple Grants Tim Cook $47M Compensation Amidst Executive Chair Role Transition

Tim Cook has transitioned from his role as Apple’s chief executive to take on the position of executive chair, a move accompanied by a compensation package valued at approximately $47 million. This package comprises a $2 million base salary and an additional $45 million in shares. Notably, half of these stock awards are contingent upon meeting specific performance targets, with the remainder set to vest over a four-year period.

With this change, the CEO position has been assumed by John Ternus, a seasoned Apple executive who previously led the company’s hardware engineering division. Ternus is set to receive a $3 million base salary along with a $55 million stock award, with a substantial portion of his compensation also linked to performance metrics. Under his leadership, Ternus will guide Apple’s product strategy and operations, stepping into a critical role for the company’s future endeavors.

Cook’s tenure as Apple’s CEO was marked by significant financial success, with his compensation exceeding $74 million in 2025. During this period, Apple saw its market value soar to about $4.7 trillion, underscoring the substantial growth achieved under his leadership. Now, as executive chair, Cook’s responsibilities will shift towards managing Apple’s external relationships, focusing on interactions with governments and policymakers, as well as strengthening ties with key international markets.

These leadership changes come as Apple continues to navigate its trajectory amidst evolving market dynamics. Both Cook and Ternus bring a wealth of experience and strategic vision to their respective roles, positioning the company to maintain its innovative edge and expand its global footprint. As these transitions unfold, Apple’s stakeholders and the tech industry at large will be closely watching how these shifts influence the company’s future direction.
