Oman and Pakistan have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral cooperation through a recently signed visa exemption agreement and four memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These agreements were finalized during an official visit by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to Pakistan, where they were signed at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad in the presence of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The visa exemption agreement, which facilitates travel for holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports, aims to streamline official visits between the two nations. This move is expected to foster closer ties by making it easier for eligible officials to travel between Oman and Pakistan.
The four MoUs cover a range of sectors, reflecting the countries’ mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in technology, telecommunications, broadcasting, and archival services. Specifically, the agreements focus on telecommunications and information technology, radio and television broadcasting, the exchange of news and information, and collaboration between Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority and Pakistan’s National Archives.
Representing Oman, Foreign Minister Al Busaidi signed the agreements, while Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar represented Pakistan. In addition to the agreements, both countries signed the minutes of the eighth session of their Joint Ministerial Committee, further cementing their commitment to expanding bilateral relations.
The newly signed agreements are designed to strengthen institutional ties, improve coordination between government agencies, and facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and information. These efforts mark another step towards developing partnerships across key sectors of mutual interest between Oman and Pakistan, signifying a deepening of their diplomatic and cooperative engagement.
