Nations relying heavily on external AI models, cloud systems, and data infrastructure might encounter difficulties in maintaining norms, safety protocols, and adapting technologies to local needs.
This report underscores both the potential advantages and inherent risks associated with AI. While AI holds the promise of enhancing sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture, there is an underlying risk that its misuse could lead to increased instances of fraud, the spread of misinformation, and even pose threats to democratic systems. To counter these risks, the UN panel has advised nations to invest in developing their own AI infrastructure, establish data centers, enhance digital skills, promote AI education, conduct safety research, and implement robust systems for monitoring AI performance post-deployment.
