Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser from the United Arab Emirates, has criticized Iran’s approach of targeting Gulf states and Jordan, labeling it ineffective. He is advocating for realistic and sustainable political solutions to conclude the persistent regional conflict. Gargash emphasized that the ongoing state of “neither war nor peace” is unsustainable and called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions. He also highlighted the necessity of restoring normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks came in the wake of renewed Iranian assaults on regional targets, which followed a fresh escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran.
The UAE Ministry of Defence reported on August 31 that it had intercepted an Iranian drone within the country’s territorial waters. Additionally, the ministry dismissed claims from Iranian media that missiles had struck the Al Minhad Air Base near Dubai, affirming that the base continues to maintain a high level of readiness.
Gargash stressed that any enduring resolution must consider both the political and economic ramifications of the conflict. He also criticized a previous memorandum of understanding for not providing a feasible and acceptable roadmap for resolving the crisis. This highlights the need for a more effective approach to address the underlying issues.
