At the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Oman reiterated its dedication to resolving international conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi emphasized the significance of building trust and addressing global crises through peaceful negotiations, respecting national sovereignty, and adhering to international law to avoid the use of force.
One of the key issues Oman addressed is the security and trade implications for the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage. Al Busaidi expressed concern about regional conflicts affecting the strait and reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation in compliance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue to resolve disputes, while also expressing solidarity with Gulf neighbors to protect their security and sovereignty.
Oman also highlighted its stance on the crisis in Yemen, advocating for a political resolution that maintains the country’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi called for cooperation among all parties to secure a settlement that upholds the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people, aiding in their reconstruction and development efforts.
In relation to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Oman condemned the attacks and violations affecting Palestinians and reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution. Al Busaidi reiterated the need for establishing a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with UN resolutions. Oman also underscored its initiatives to promote tolerance and counter hate speech through the Muscat Plan, in collaboration with the United Nations.
Furthermore, Al Busaidi outlined Oman’s commitment to sustainable development under Oman Vision 2040, focusing on renewable energy, sustainable transport, green industries, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This commitment reflects Oman’s broader efforts to address global challenges while promoting peace and stability through dialogue and cooperation.
