To incentivize the use of this corridor, Sharjah has implemented toll exemptions for cargo trucks using authorized routes from Oman. Additionally, the initiative offers faster customs clearance, streamlined cargo movement, and allows businesses to complete customs procedures at inland container terminals, rather than at border crossings, to expedite the process. Logistics costs could see a reduction of approximately 15%, contingent on cargo type and transportation needs, making it particularly advantageous for manufacturers by speeding up the movement of both raw materials and finished goods.
This development is integral to Sharjah’s strategy to bolster its standing as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. The emirate, with over 3,000 factories contributing about a quarter of its GDP, stands to gain significantly from this improved trade route.
