The former Florida senator emphasized that Venezuela has already demonstrably improved compared to four weeks earlier and suggested this positive trajectory will continue as interim authorities cooperate with American demands. He outlined economic frameworks including restoration of limited oil sales with strict Treasury oversight and projected continued progress toward stabilization.
Rubio acknowledged that recovery cannot occur overnight but expressed optimism about the country’s direction under acting president Delcy Rodriguez. He described cooperation as productive and suggested that interim leaders understand compliance with requirements including democratic reforms brings tangible benefits. The Secretary met with opposition leader Maria Corina Machado after the hearing.
Democrats challenged these optimistic projections, questioning whether they align with on-the-ground realities given continuing economic struggles and the persistence of Maduro-era officials in governmental positions.
