The ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States have drawn international attention, with global powers urging both nations to de-escalate conflict and return to diplomatic dialogue. In this context, China has stepped forward, underscoring the importance of stability in critical regions such as the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy supplies.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing to discuss these issues. Wang emphasized that the persistent conflict between Washington and Tehran is detrimental not only to the two countries but also to the international community. He advocated for a return to the existing memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran, suggesting this as a foundation for renewing negotiations.
Highlighting the global economic implications, Wang called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, advocating for the safety and accessibility of international shipping routes. He pointed out that maintaining stability in this waterway is crucial for ensuring the security of international supply chains and energy resources.
In addition to addressing the immediate U.S.-Iran tensions, Wang urged regional countries to prevent the spillover of conflict into Yemen and the Red Sea. He stressed the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving disputes in these areas to maintain regional peace.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed Iran’s willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts while safeguarding its national interests. He stated that Iran still recognizes the validity of the memorandum with the United States and is open to collaborating with regional countries to enhance security and relations. Araghchi also welcomed China’s proposals aimed at bolstering peace and security in the Middle East, expressing Iran’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Beijing.
