This development follows his meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. Pezeshkian characterized their conversation as positive, highlighting a shared commitment to moving forward and collaborating on future initiatives.
The encounter signifies the most significant engagement between Iran and the UAE since the escalation of conflicts in the West Asian region. Previously, diplomatic ties were strained, notably when the UAE decided to halt trade and financial interactions with Iran amid rising tensions. This dialogue occurred soon after Iran, the UAE, and other BRICS nations collectively issued a statement advocating for restraint in the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the proposed meeting between Iran and Gulf states concerning the Strait of Hormuz, indicating he was not worried about the discussions. The meeting was planned to be held in Oman, amidst persistent tensions between the United States and Iran.
